What We Do

Harinder Veriah

This film was made in 2002. After Hari’s death, a campaign was launched in Hong Kong for anti-racist legislation. In July 2008 Hong Kong finally introduced an anti-racist law, a direct response to Hari’s death. Hari’s husband Martin and son Ravi also took legal action against the Hospital Authority for clinical negligence. Despite a decade of repeated denials from the Hospital Authority that it had any responsibility for Hari’s death, the Hospital Authority finally capitulated just days before the matter was to be heard at the Hong Kong High Court and a settlement was reached in March 2010.

“I like HVT because it is the best. We get free meals. I like going for tuition. The teachers are very nice and they want me to become a good student.”
